I have the same fear about the USA. I think we all were sold a bill of goods (i.e., crap) when we were told this was the information age (or even service age) and the industrial age is dead. I think we still need to be making thing. If $100 worth of goods goes out, then, and only then, $100 can return.
I'm probably wrong but I thought "productivity" means to "produce" something. I have a hard time grasping "information" as something produced.... even service.
Both the UK and USA need to produce tangible things. And maybe if we own the copyright or patent on it, we should be charging premium price.. such as 70% final retail price.
I never have adopted the concept of not making things, however, I did adopt the concept that China can make it cheaper while we can do things that takes more knowledge. I think I was wrong to put so much faith in knowledge.
