2010 Fashion Trends for the Fall

This year, I am seeing buttoned-up shirt collars in Elle Magazine as well as Harper's Bazaar. The later is also sporting frilly Bohemian Rhapsody designs in dresses with mid-length coats and leather jackets and yes, fur. (Couldn't wear it myself but it is huge this year! Please don't ask me to go there!) Very few designs with the low-neck teddy are on cat walk. Career jackets, short, big, baggy, long, you name it, the business woman look is making a grand entrance this fall and winter.

Black is back, girls, and in a really big way! From black shoes to black leather pants, jackets and skirts, the look is any color as long as you have something with black, gray and midnight blue. Camel is great for suits, satin bow tie blouses and remember the frilly front ruffle is superb for the sleeveless blouse, all are indicated as wardrobe enhancers.

Jewelry appears to be following suit. Whilst Milan still shows hints of dangling earrings, London, Paris and New York are back to the basics. However, the longer strands of beaded necklaces and statement types of designs for evening neck wear are holding their own. My suggestion for the fall of 2010 is the color diamond stud for all occasions, the black diamond takes first place in the spotlight. Meaningful, powerful and irresistible to the woman with standards, the black diamond stud earrings can be worn with beads, pearls, silver and gold strands or just to enhance the up-do hairstyle that is dominating the new dress code for the last quarter of 2010.

Rule of thumb for jewelry when in doubt:

Dangling earrings – No Necklace!

Big Necklace – Small Stud Earrings

The jury is still out with respect to bracelets, I am not seeing them at all and the big silver bangle and cuff bracelet did not do as well as expected this summer. But don't throw them out just yet.

Knee high boots as well as boots with wedges are making guest appearances in the show category. Obviously, these fashion setters have never lived in Texas or Florida! My suggestion for shoes still remains the closed-toe, closed-heel pump with the 2 or 3 inch heel to be on the safe side. There are some high strapped heels that are hanging tough, especially in black.

Make-up is all about smoky eyes and very soft faded lips. Blush is a necessity around the hairline and rounded cheeks as opposed to the dark high cheek bone look. If you are going to wear dark lipstick, make it a darker plum, brownish burgundy or nutmeg. Lips are not the big issue with this look and as a matter of fact, it appears to be lighter if anything at all. If you skip the lipstick, make sure you invest your money into a nice lip balm for protection.
